Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Payroll Data Specialist to join our finance team in Gungahlin. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our payroll data for a large-scale government organization. You will be responsible for processing payroll, maintaining employee records, and ensuring strict compliance with Australian payroll legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements. Key Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end payroll for a high volume of employees on a regular basis, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, changes in compensation, and deductions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Australian federal and state payroll legislation, superannuation laws, tax regulations, and industrial awards/agreements.
  • Reconcile payroll data and resolve discrepancies promptly and accurately.
  • Prepare and submit payroll-related reports to internal stakeholders and external agencies.
  • Assist with year-end payroll processes and audits.
  • Respond to employee queries regarding payroll in a professional, empathetic, and timely manner.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in a payroll processing or data management role (minimum 2 years).
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data entry and reconciliation.
  • Proficiency with payroll software and systems (e.g., SAP, Aurion, Chris21 or similar).
  • Solid understanding of Australian payroll legislation, tax, and superannuation requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex payroll matters clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Diploma or Certificate IV in Payroll, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Experience working with large-scale payroll systems within a government or large corporate environment.
  • Knowledge of Australian Public Service (APS) payroll conditions and guidelines.
  • Experience with HRIS integration with payroll systems.
  • Certification from a recognized payroll professional body.
