Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Curatorial & Exhibition Intern to join our dedicated team. This entry-level internship offers an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the multifaceted world of museum operations, focusing specifically on curatorial research, exhibition development, and collection management. The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced curatorial staff, learning the intricacies of bringing art to the public. No prior experience in a museum setting is required; full training and mentorship will be provided. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about fine arts, history, and cultural institutions, looking to launch a career in the museum field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist curators with research for upcoming exhibitions, including artist biographies, artwork provenance, and thematic content.
  • Support the preparation of exhibition materials, such as object labels, gallery guides, and didactic texts.
  • Help with the organization and inventory of collection objects, ensuring proper handling and documentation.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of exhibition installations and de-installations.
  • Contribute to the development of public programs and educational initiatives related to exhibitions.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical files for curatorial projects.
  • Attend departmental meetings and contribute to discussions on curatorial strategies.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks within the curatorial department.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest and passion for fine arts, art history, or cultural studies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tasks and challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (e.g., Art History, Museum Studies, Cultural Management).
  • Basic knowledge of art handling best practices (training will be provided).
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is considered an asset due to our location in Quebec.
  • Previous volunteer experience in a gallery or cultural institution is a plus, but not required.
