Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nuclear Engineer / Reactor Operator to join our dynamic team in Slough. This critical role involves contributing to the design, operation, and maintenance of advanced nuclear systems, ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining operational readiness, conducting detailed analyses, and adhering to stringent regulatory requirements. Due to the sensitive nature of our work, this position requires applicants to undergo and successfully obtain UK Security Clearance. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and participate in the safe and efficient operation of nuclear reactors and associated plant systems.
  • Conduct routine and complex engineering analyses, including thermal-hydraulic, criticality, and shielding calculations.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures, safety protocols, and emergency response plans.
  • Monitor plant performance, troubleshoot operational issues, and ensure compliance with all regulatory licenses and safety cases.
  • Support the design, testing, and commissioning of new nuclear facilities and upgrades.
  • Perform root cause analysis for operational events and develop corrective actions.
  • Participate in training and qualification programs to maintain and enhance operational and engineering expertise.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure strict adherence to company safety policies, environmental regulations, and security protocols.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrable experience in nuclear power plant operations or design, specifically with reactor systems.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear safety principles, regulatory frameworks (e.g., ONR, IAEA), and licensing processes.
  • Proficiency in engineering analysis tools and simulation software relevant to nuclear applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical reporting and team collaboration.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-security, regulated environment.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance.
  • Willingness to undertake comprehensive training for reactor operator certification if not already held.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience as a certified Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator.
  • Familiarity with UK nuclear defence programs or civil nuclear infrastructure.
  • Project management experience within a nuclear engineering context.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer status.
