Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Solar Energy Engineer to join our growing team in Headingley, Leeds. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of solar PV projects, from initial concept and feasibility studies through detailed design, system optimization, and technical support. You will play a crucial part in expanding our portfolio of sustainable energy projects across the region, ensuring the delivery of high-performance, cost-effective, and compliant solar solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and energy audits to determine optimal solar PV system layouts and specifications.
- Design grid-tied and off-grid solar PV systems using industry-standard software (e.g., PVsyst, AutoCAD) including electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and mechanical layouts.
- Perform energy yield simulations and performance analysis to accurately predict system output and ensure project viability.
- Prepare detailed technical proposals, scope of works, and bill of materials for prospective clients and project bids.
- Collaborate with sales, project management, and installation teams to ensure seamless project execution from design to commissioning.
- Stay abreast of the latest solar technology advancements, industry standards, and regulatory requirements in the UK.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance during system installation and operation.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK electrical standards, building regulations, and health and safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in solar PV system design and engineering.
- Proficiency in solar design software (e.g., PVsyst, AutoCAD, Helioscope, SketchUp).
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and solar PV components (inverters, modules, racking systems).
- Familiarity with UK electrical standards (e.g., BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations) and building codes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in solar PV design or installation (e.g., MCS accreditation knowledge, NICEIC).
- Experience with battery storage integration and energy management systems.
- Project management experience in the renewable energy sector.
- Knowledge of energy economics and financial modelling for solar projects.
