Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate History Teacher to join our thriving Humanities department. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching History across various key stages, inspiring a deep understanding and appreciation for historical events, figures, and concepts. You will contribute to the development of an engaging curriculum, foster critical thinking skills in students, and prepare them for academic success in examinations. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging History lessons to students across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Level.
- Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, providing constructive feedback to support their learning journey.
- Develop and implement schemes of work and curriculum materials that are stimulating and challenging.
- Contribute to the departmental and whole-school co-curricular programme, potentially including history clubs or trips.
- Participate in departmental meetings, staff training, and parents' evenings.
- Maintain a stimulating and well-organised classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Undertake pastoral duties as a form tutor, supporting student welfare and academic progress.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and enhance teaching and learning strategies.
- Keep abreast of developments in history education and incorporate innovative teaching methods.
Required Skills
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A degree in History or a related field.
- Proven experience teaching History effectively at Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Level.
- Excellent subject knowledge and a genuine passion for History.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Ability to differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a specific examination board (e.g., AQA, Edexcel, OCR) at GCSE and A-Level.
- Experience of teaching in an independent school setting.
- An additional specialism within the Humanities.
- Experience leading or contributing to co-curricular activities.
