Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Scrum Master / Agile Coach to join our dynamic engineering teams in Vancouver. This role is crucial for fostering an agile mindset, facilitating team growth, and ensuring the smooth delivery of high-quality software products. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, and designers to optimize our development processes, remove impediments, and cultivate a collaborative and self-organizing environment. Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate all scrum ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Coach development teams and product owners in Agile principles and practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Identify and remove impediments that hinder team progress, collaborating with various stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Ensure the team is self-organizing and cross-functional, promoting accountability and shared ownership.
- Support the Product Owner in maintaining the product backlog, ensuring it is well-groomed, prioritized, and ready for development.
- Track and report on team metrics, using data to drive discussions and improve team performance.
- Act as a servant leader, protecting the team from external interruptions and distractions.
- Help manage stakeholder expectations and facilitate communication between the team and external parties.
- Champion an environment of psychological safety and transparency.
- Contribute to the broader Agile Community of Practice within Shopify.
Required Skills
- 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach in a software development environment.
- Strong understanding of Agile principles and frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, LeSS).
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and coaching skills.
- Proven ability to guide and mentor teams towards self-organization and continuous improvement.
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar agile project management tools.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams, including remote and international members.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM I/II) certification.
- Experience working in a large-scale enterprise or e-commerce platform environment.
- Knowledge of various coaching techniques and conflict resolution strategies.
- Experience with other agile roles, such as Product Owner or Developer.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with scaling agile frameworks like SAFe or LeSS.
