Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Virtual Proofreader to join our team, focusing on self-published books. This 100% remote position is perfect for someone with an exceptional eye for detail, a strong command of the English language, and a passion for ensuring written content is flawless. Your primary role will be to meticulously review manuscripts for typographical errors, grammatical mistakes, punctuation issues, and inconsistencies, helping authors present their best work. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a keen eye for detail and a passion for language, even if you have no prior professional proofreading experience. Comprehensive training will be provided to equip you with the tools and knowledge needed to excel in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Carefully read and review self-published book manuscripts for typos, grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and punctuation inaccuracies.
- Identify and correct inconsistencies in formatting, style, and terminology.
- Ensure adherence to specified style guides or house style where applicable.
- Provide clear, concise, and constructive feedback on identified errors.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and quality in all proofreading tasks.
- Collaborate effectively with authors and editorial teams as needed.
Required Skills
- Exceptional grasp of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a keen eye for errors.
- Strong ability to concentrate for extended periods.
- Reliable internet connection and a personal computer.
- Proficiency with common digital document formats (e.g., Microsoft Word, PDF).
