Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Access Representative to join our Emergency Room Front Desk team. In this critical role, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors entering our busy Emergency Department. You will play a vital role in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient registration process, collecting accurate demographic and insurance information, and providing excellent customer service during often stressful situations. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment. Full training will be provided to ensure your success in this essential front-line healthcare role.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and register patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner upon arrival to the Emergency Department.
- Accurately collect and verify patient demographic, insurance, and medical information.
- Obtain necessary signatures for consent to treat, financial responsibility, and privacy practices.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, and collect co-payments or deductibles as required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Direct patients and visitors to appropriate areas within the department or hospital.
- Answer incoming calls and provide information or transfer to appropriate personnel.
- Collaborate effectively with clinical staff, nurses, and physicians to ensure seamless patient flow.
- Perform various clerical duties, including filing, scanning, and data entry.
- Handle patient inquiries and resolve issues with empathy and efficiency.
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with computer systems and data entry.
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology (can be learned on the job).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare, administrative, or customer service role.
- Familiarity with medical insurance verification processes.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish).
