Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Painting & Sculpture Studio Intern to join our team in Hamilton. This is an unparalleled opportunity for an aspiring artist or a dedicated individual with a passion for the arts to gain hands-on experience in a professional studio environment. No prior studio experience is required; we are looking for someone eager to learn, contribute, and immerse themselves in the daily operations of a working art studio. You will work closely with experienced artists, assist with various projects, and learn the practicalities of studio management and artistic production.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist resident artists with preparation of canvases, sculptural armatures, and other art materials.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe studio environment.
- Support artists during workshops and studio events.
- Document artwork through photography and cataloging.
- Research art materials, techniques, and safety protocols.
- Aid in the installation and de-installation of studio exhibitions.
- Perform general administrative tasks related to studio operations.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for painting, sculpture, and the visual arts.
- Eagerness to learn and take initiative.
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently when necessary.
- Basic manual dexterity and comfort working with various tools and materials (training provided).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- No prior professional experience in a studio is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an art-related program (e.g., fine arts, art history, art education) but not mandatory.
- Basic understanding of art materials and studio safety.
- Experience with digital photography and basic image editing software.
- A portfolio of personal artwork (even if informal) is a plus but not a requirement.
