Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Piling Rig Operator to join our dedicated team on a significant infrastructure project located in Katherine, Northern Territory. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various piling rigs to construct foundations for a range of structures. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the successful and timely delivery of project milestones, all while adhering to the highest standards of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate piling rigs (e.g., rotary, CFA, driven piles) and associated equipment safely and efficiently, in strict accordance with project specifications, operational manuals, and company safety procedures.
- Conduct thorough pre-start checks, routine maintenance, and perform minor repairs on piling equipment, reporting any significant faults or issues to the maintenance team.
- Accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, project plans, and specifications to ensure precise piling installation and alignment.
- Monitor ground conditions and adapt piling techniques and procedures as necessary to ensure stability and effective pile installation.
- Work collaboratively with site engineers, project supervisors, and other construction personnel to achieve project goals.
- Adhere strictly to all site-specific safety regulations, company Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Promptly report any equipment malfunctions, safety incidents, near misses, or potential hazards to the site supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area around the piling rig and general site.
- Contribute to daily toolbox talks and participate in site safety initiatives.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience operating various types of piling rigs on civil or infrastructure projects.
- Possession of current and valid Australian plant operator tickets/licences for piling equipment.
- Valid Australian HR (Heavy Rigid) or HC (Heavy Combination) class driver's license.
- Comprehensive understanding of piling techniques, methodologies, ground conditions, and associated risks.
- Exceptional commitment to safety and a proven track record of adhering to WHS procedures and site protocols.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret complex engineering drawings, plans, and technical specifications.
- Strong communication skills, capable of effectively collaborating within a diverse team environment.
- Solid mechanical aptitude for performing basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Current White Card (Construction Induction Card).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Civil Construction, Plant Operations, or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience with GPS/UTS machine control systems for precision piling.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Previous experience working on large-scale government infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with remote site working conditions and logistics.
