Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Shipping Agent to join our dynamic team in Darwin. This role is crucial for coordinating and managing all aspects of vessel operations and cargo movements within the maritime industry. The successful candidate will act as the primary point of contact for vessel masters, port authorities, customs, and clients, ensuring efficient and compliant port calls. This is a fast-paced role that requires excellent organizational skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to thrive in a challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee port calls for various vessels, including bulk carriers, container ships, and offshore support vessels.
  • Prepare and submit all necessary documentation to port authorities, customs, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Communicate effectively with vessel masters, crew, clients, and internal departments regarding vessel schedules, cargo status, and operational requirements.
  • Arrange for pilotage, tug services, berthing, and other essential port services.
  • Manage cargo loading and unloading operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational procedures.
  • Process invoices, financial transactions, and maintain accurate records of all vessel activities.
  • Respond to and resolve any operational issues or emergencies that may arise during a vessel's port stay.
  • Ensure adherence to all local and international maritime regulations and company policies.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in shipping, logistics, or a related maritime role.
  • Strong understanding of port operations, maritime regulations, and shipping documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in using logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and a proactive work ethic.
  • Valid Australian driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Maritime Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience working with major shipping lines or port agencies.
  • Knowledge of Darwin port operations and local conditions.
  • Customs broker license or experience with customs procedures.
