Job Description
Join Downer Group as an experienced and certified Pipe Welder with 6G certification, specializing in construction projects across Melbourne. You will be instrumental in executing complex welding tasks on various materials and structures, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety. This role requires precision, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to project deadlines within a dynamic construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform 6G position welding on various pipe sizes and materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, etc.) according to project specifications and blueprints.
- Inspect finished welds for quality, integrity, and compliance with all relevant codes and standards (e.g., AS/NZS, ASME, API).
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Adhere strictly to all site safety regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with other tradespeople, supervisors, and project managers.
- Identify and resolve welding issues, ensuring high-quality output and minimizing rework.
- Prepare workpieces for welding, including cutting, grinding, and fitting.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Required Skills
- Current and valid 6G welding certification.
- Proficiency in various welding processes including SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW, particularly in pipe welding.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and WPS documents.
- Strong understanding of welding metallurgy and material properties.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Solid understanding of construction site safety protocols and practices.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in various weather conditions and challenging environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- A minimum of 3 years of proven experience in pipe welding, preferably in construction or heavy industrial settings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade).
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or commercial construction projects.
- Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and quality control procedures.
- First Aid certification.
- White Card (General Construction Induction Card for Australia).
