Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Rural Store Assistant to join our team in Palmerston North. This ongoing full-time position is ideal for someone passionate about the agricultural sector and providing exceptional service to our farming community. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks including customer assistance, stock management, and maintaining a tidy and efficient store environment. This role offers the opportunity to become a key part of a supportive team, contributing directly to the success of our rural customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service, assisting farmers and customers with their inquiries and purchases.
  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale system.
  • Receive, unpack, and merchandise stock, ensuring products are well-presented and shelves are fully stocked.
  • Assist with inventory management, including stock counts and ensuring product rotation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised store environment, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Handle customer orders, special requests, and product returns in line with company policies.
  • Learn and stay updated on our range of farming supplies, animal health products, and general merchandise.
  • Operate forklifts and other store equipment safely (training provided if necessary).

Required Skills

  • Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment (1 year).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach to learning and a willingness to understand agricultural products.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort with point-of-sale systems.
  • Physical fitness to handle stock, lift heavy items, and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an agricultural or rural supplies retail setting.
  • Knowledge of farming practices, animal health, or specific agricultural products.
  • Current forklift operator's certificate.
  • Full New Zealand driver's license.
