Job Description
Are you passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives? The Brantford Community Crisis Centre is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Trainee Crisis Hotline Operators. This entry-level position is perfect for those with no prior experience in crisis intervention, as comprehensive, paid training will be provided. You will play a crucial role in providing immediate support, active listening, and resource referrals to individuals in crisis over the phone. This position involves working various shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends, to ensure 24/7 coverage for our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer incoming calls from individuals experiencing mental health crises, addiction-related issues, or emotional distress.
- Provide empathetic, non-judgmental, and active listening support to callers.
- Assess caller needs and de-escalate crisis situations effectively and safely.
- Provide information and referrals to appropriate community resources, mental health services, and emergency support.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interactions and incidents.
- Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
- Collaborate with senior operators and supervisors to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Participate actively in ongoing training and professional development sessions.

- Experience in customer service, caregiving, or volunteer work in a helping profession.
- Knowledge of local Brantford community resources.
- Bilingualism (English and French, or English and an Indigenous language).
