Job Description

We are seeking a talented and driven Electrical Engineer with expertise or a strong interest in High Voltage (HV) systems to join our dynamic team in Calgary, Alberta. You will be responsible for the design, analysis, and maintenance of high-voltage transmission equipment and systems, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of Alberta’s electricity grid.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering analysis, design, and specification of high-voltage transmission equipment and systems (e.g., substations, transmission lines, protective relaying).
  • Develop technical specifications for new projects, upgrades, and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct power system studies, fault analysis, transient analysis, and insulation coordination studies for HV systems.
  • Support project lifecycle from conception through commissioning, including reviewing drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical issues in high-voltage environments, providing technical expertise and solutions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including operations, maintenance, planning, and construction.
  • Ensure all designs and activities adhere to stringent safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and practices.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably with exposure to high voltage power systems.
  • Strong understanding of power system fundamentals, including generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Proficiency with engineering design software such as ETAP, PSCAD, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical codes, standards (e.g., CSA, IEEE, NERC), and safety practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering specializing in Power Systems.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Canada or eligibility for registration with APEGA.
  • Experience with protection and control systems for high voltage substations.
  • Familiarity with Alberta's specific electricity transmission regulations and market structure.
  • Project management experience in an engineering context.
