Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and proactive General Hand to join our dedicated team, providing essential maintenance and support services across various school and university campuses in the Newcastle region. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of educational facilities, contributing to a safe and functional environment for students, faculty, and staff. The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks, from minor repairs and grounds maintenance to assisting skilled tradespeople and managing waste. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a practical mindset and a strong work ethic to contribute to the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance, including litter removal, garden upkeep, and basic landscaping.
- Undertake minor repairs and maintenance tasks within facilities, such as patching walls, changing lightbulbs, and basic carpentry.
- Assist tradespeople (e.g., electricians, plumbers, carpenters) with their tasks as directed.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all work areas are kept clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling programs on site.
- Assist with setting up and packing down for events or functions as required.
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities and report any major defects or maintenance needs.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and company policies.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of general maintenance tasks.
- Ability to operate common hand and power tools.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Good physical fitness to perform manual tasks and lifting.

- Current Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar maintenance or general hand role, particularly within an educational or commercial setting.
- First Aid certification.
- Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Basic knowledge of building systems or trades.
