Job Description

Victorian Marine Solutions is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Shipwright to join our dedicated team in Dandenong. This pivotal role involves performing specialist marine repairs, construction, and maintenance tasks on various vessel types. The successful candidate will be proficient in traditional and modern shipwright techniques, possessing a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to safety and quality. You will be instrumental in ensuring the structural integrity, functionality, and aesthetic finish of vessels undergoing service at our facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural repairs and modifications on timber, fibreglass, steel, and aluminum vessels.
  • Perform planking, framing, deck repairs, and hull maintenance.
  • Execute precise fit-out work, including cabinetry, joinery, and interior finishing.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications accurately.
  • Utilize hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Assist with vessel launching, hauling, and shoring procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other tradespersons to ensure project completion.
  • Conduct quality checks and inspections of completed work.
  • Provide technical advice and solutions for complex marine repair challenges.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a qualified Shipwright.
  • Expertise in working with multiple vessel construction materials (timber, fibreglass, steel, aluminum).
  • Strong understanding of marine construction principles and repair methodologies.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade Certificate in Shipwright/Boat Building or equivalent.
  • Experience with advanced composite repair techniques.
  • Forklift license.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Experience with marine coatings and finishes application.
