Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Marine Cargo Surveyor to join our team in Esperance, Western Australia. This role involves performing inspections, surveys, and technical assessments of various marine cargoes and vessels to ensure compliance with international standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for meticulously documenting findings, issuing reports, and providing expert advice on cargo handling, storage, and condition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-shipment, loading, discharge, and on-hire/off-hire surveys of marine cargo and vessels.
  • Perform draft surveys and Bunker Surveys.
  • Assess cargo damage and prepare detailed reports including photographs and supportive documentation.
  • Verify cargo quantity, quality, and condition in accordance with relevant industry standards and client instructions.
  • Inspect vessel holds, tanks, and storage areas for suitability for cargo loading.
  • Provide technical advice to clients regarding cargo operations, loss prevention, and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and company procedures at all times.
  • Liaise effectively with ship captains, port authorities, stevedores, and clients.
  • Prepare accurate and timely survey reports and certificates.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Marine Cargo Surveyor or similar technical role.
  • Sound knowledge of maritime operations, cargo types (e.g., bulk, liquid, general), and handling procedures.
  • Familiarity with international maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL) and industry best practices.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client interaction.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software (MS Office Suite).
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments in challenging environments.
  • Valid Australian driver's license and the ability to travel to various port locations as required.
  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g., Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • Membership with a recognized professional surveying body.
  • Experience with specialized cargo types (e.g., dangerous goods, project cargo).
  • Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
