Job Description

Are you looking to make a meaningful impact and gain invaluable experience in social services? The Finger Lakes Independence Center (FLIC) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Blind & Visually Impaired Support Services Intern. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to learn about and contribute to supporting individuals who are blind or visually impaired within the Finger Lakes region. You will work alongside experienced professionals, assisting with various programs and services designed to enhance independence and quality of life. This is a hands-on role where you’ll develop practical skills, build strong community connections, and contribute directly to our mission. Full training and mentorship will be provided, and no prior professional experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating support groups and workshops for individuals with visual impairments.
  • Help develop and prepare accessible materials, including large print, braille, or audio formats.
  • Provide administrative support, including data entry, scheduling, and maintaining client records.
  • Research resources and assistive technologies relevant to the blind and visually impaired community.
  • Shadow and learn from experienced staff members during client interactions and outreach activities.
  • Contribute to community outreach efforts and awareness campaigns.
  • Support staff in organizing and executing special events and fundraising activities.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite, email, internet).

Preferred Qualifications
