Job Description
Are you passionate about animals and eager to make a tangible difference in people’s lives? Helping Hounds of Connecticut is seeking a motivated and compassionate Canine Service Dog Training Intern to join our dedicated team. This entry-level internship is perfect for individuals with no prior professional experience in dog training, offering comprehensive hands-on training and mentorship. You will learn the foundational principles of service dog training, canine behavior, and the critical role these animals play in assisting individuals with disabilities. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior trainers with daily care, exercise, and basic obedience training for service dogs in various stages of development.
- Observe and learn advanced training techniques for specific tasks related to service dog work.
- Support the maintenance of training facilities, including cleaning kennels and training areas.
- Prepare training materials and assist with equipment setup.
- Document dog progress, behavior, and training sessions under supervision.
- Participate in educational outreach programs and demonstrations as needed.
- Help with the socialization of puppies and young dogs, ensuring they are well-adjusted to various environments.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and animal welfare guidelines.
