Job Description
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Cartographer / GIS Specialist to join our dynamic team in Spokane, Washington. This role is crucial for developing, maintaining, and analyzing our extensive geographic information systems, supporting various departments including operations, engineering, and planning. The successful candidate will play a key role in visualizing complex data, creating accurate maps, and contributing to strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities
- Design, create, and maintain geographic databases and GIS layers for electric and natural gas infrastructure.
- Produce high-quality maps, charts, and spatial data visualizations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform complex spatial analysis to support business decisions, identify trends, and optimize operations.
- Integrate data from various sources (e.g., GPS, CAD, existing databases) into the GIS.
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with established standards and protocols.
- Provide technical support and training to users on GIS applications and best practices.
- Research and recommend new GIS technologies and methodologies to enhance efficiency and capabilities.
- Collaborate with engineers, planners, and field personnel to understand their mapping and data needs.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro) and ArcGIS Online.
- Strong understanding of cartographic principles and map design.
- Experience with spatial data analysis and geoprocessing tools.
- Knowledge of various data formats (e.g., shapefiles, geodatabases, KML, CSV).
- Ability to work with GPS data collection and post-processing.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional experience in a GIS-related role.
- Experience with SQL and database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
- Familiarity with Python scripting for GIS automation.
- Knowledge of utility infrastructure or related industry experience.
- GIS professional certification (e.g., GISP).
