Job Description

As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at HSBC, you will be a pivotal leader responsible for shaping and executing our global technology strategy. This is a critical leadership role that requires a visionary with deep technical expertise, exceptional strategic thinking, and a proven track record in driving large-scale digital transformation within a complex, global environment. You will lead diverse, globally distributed teams, foster a culture of innovation, and ensure our technology infrastructure and applications are robust, secure, and scalable to support our ambitious business goals. Your remit will include overseeing all aspects of technology development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital innovation, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and business objectives. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global technology strategy that aligns with HSBC's overall business objectives and long-term vision.
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of technology professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of secure, scalable, and high-performance technology solutions and infrastructure.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives, including cloud adoption, AI/ML integration, and agile methodologies across the organisation.
  • Manage the technology budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and optimal resource allocation.
  • Establish and enforce robust cybersecurity measures and data privacy protocols to protect HSBC's assets and customer information.
  • Collaborate closely with other executive leaders to identify new opportunities, mitigate risks, and ensure technology is a strategic enabler for the business.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact and applicability to HSBC.
  • Represent HSBC's technology vision and achievements to internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and industry partners.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in senior technology leadership roles, preferably within financial services or a heavily regulated industry.
  • Proven track record of defining and executing technology strategies for global organisations.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise architecture, software development lifecycles, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and data analytics.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, FCA).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and manage large, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and manage complex digital transformation projects.
  • Strategic thinker with a strong business acumen and a results-oriented approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with AI, Machine Learning, and blockchain technologies.
  • Prior experience working in a global banking or FinTech environment.
  • Certifications in relevant cloud platforms or cybersecurity frameworks.
