Job Description
Are you ready to embark on a challenging and rewarding career maintaining the essential infrastructure that powers our communities? National Grid is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team in Chesterfield as City Power Grid Trainee / Lineman Apprentices. This is a unique opportunity for highly motivated individuals with no prior experience to receive comprehensive, fully-paid training to become skilled Linemen. You will learn the critical aspects of constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical transmission and distribution lines, ensuring reliable power delivery to homes and businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all aspects of the structured apprenticeship program, including classroom instruction and on-the-job training.
- Learn and strictly adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and best practices relevant to power line work.
- Assist experienced Linemen with the installation, repair, and maintenance of poles, cables, transformers, and other electrical equipment.
- Develop proficiency in the safe and effective use of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
- Perform various manual labor tasks, including digging, climbing, and lifting, in diverse weather conditions.
- Inspect and identify potential issues or hazards on the power grid under supervision.
- Contribute to a positive and safe working environment by collaborating effectively with team members.

Preferred Qualifications

- GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent).
