Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable City Street Sweeper Operator to join our Environmental Services team. This vital full-time role involves operating modern street sweeping vehicles to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of Chelmsford’s roads, pavements, and public spaces. You will play a crucial part in our community, ensuring a clean start to each day through early morning shifts. Key Responsibilities
- Operate street sweeping vehicles safely and efficiently along designated routes.
- Perform thorough pre-operation vehicle checks and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.
- Effectively remove litter, debris, leaves, and other waste from roads, gutters, and public areas.
- Monitor and maintain fluid levels and cleanliness of the sweeping apparatus.
- Dispose of collected waste properly at designated facilities.
- Interact professionally with the public and colleagues, acting as an ambassador for the Council.
- Be prepared for early morning starts to ensure areas are clean before peak activity.
Required Skills
- Valid UK Driving Licence
- Ability to work early morning shifts reliably
- Good spatial awareness and attention to detail
- Commitment to health and safety regulations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic mechanical aptitude for vehicle checks
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating commercial vehicles or machinery
- HGV Class 2 Licence (or willingness to obtain with support)
- Familiarity with the Chelmsford road network
