Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and organised Council Storeperson to join our Depot Logistics & Inventory team in Casuarina. This vital role involves managing the receipt, storage, and dispatch of materials and equipment essential for the City of Darwin’s operational activities. You will play a key part in maintaining accurate inventory records, ensuring efficient stock rotation, and supporting various internal departments with their material needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of warehouse procedures, a commitment to safety, and excellent attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and accurately record all incoming goods and materials.
  • Organise and maintain the physical layout of the depot store, ensuring optimal space utilisation and easy access to items.
  • Pick, pack, and prepare materials and equipment for dispatch to various council work teams and projects.
  • Conduct regular stocktakes and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently (where licensed).
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment within the depot.
  • Liaise with suppliers, internal departments, and delivery personnel.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting damaged, faulty, or missing stock.
  • Adhere to all council policies, procedures, and WHS guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a storeperson, warehouse, or logistics role.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management principles.
  • Ability to accurately manage documentation and record-keeping.
  • Proficiency in using computerised inventory systems.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Current Australian C-class Driver's Licence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift Licence (LF Class).
  • Previous experience working within a local government or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of WHS regulations pertaining to warehouse operations.
  • First Aid certification.
