Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Curatorial & Exhibition Intern to join our dedicated team. This is an unparalleled opportunity for an emerging arts professional to gain hands-on experience in the dynamic environment of a leading fine arts museum. The intern will assist the curatorial and exhibitions departments with various aspects of exhibition development, collection research, and gallery operations, contributing to the successful presentation of art to the public. This entry-level position is designed for individuals with no prior professional experience in a museum setting, offering comprehensive training and mentorship to develop foundational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist curators with research for upcoming exhibitions, including artist biographies, artwork provenance, and thematic content.
- Support the exhibitions team in preparing gallery spaces, including object handling, installation assistance, and didactic material placement.
- Help organize and manage exhibition-related documentation, such as loan agreements, condition reports, and checklists.
- Contribute to the development of interpretive materials, including label copy, brochures, and digital content.
- Assist with the maintenance and organization of curatorial files and digital archives.
- Participate in exhibition planning meetings and provide administrative support to the curatorial department.
- Learn best practices in collection management, conservation, and exhibition design.
- Engage with other museum departments to understand the holistic operations of a fine arts institution.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in art history, fine arts, museum studies, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant undergraduate or graduate program.
- Familiarity with art historical research methods.
- Basic knowledge of gallery or museum practices.
