Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Damaged Goods Sorter to join our team at the McAllen Distribution Center. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for meticulously inspecting incoming and outgoing merchandise for any signs of damage or defect. Your primary duties will include accurately logging identified damaged items into our inventory system, categorizing them for appropriate disposal, salvage, or return, and safely handling these goods. This position plays a vital part in maintaining inventory accuracy, reducing waste, and ensuring only quality products reach our stores. Full training will be provided to ensure you are proficient in all our processes and systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect merchandise daily for damage, defects, or discrepancies.
- Accurately log all damaged items into the inventory management system.
- Categorize damaged goods for appropriate action (e.g., disposal, return to vendor, salvage).
- Safely handle, move, and store broken or unsalable items according to company procedures.
- Ensure proper documentation is completed for all damaged goods processes.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and operational guidelines.
- Collaborate with other warehouse team members to ensure smooth operations.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement in damaged goods handling.
Required Skills
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions in English.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and system navigation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify subtle damages.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift (up to 50 lbs), and move merchandise for extended periods.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Prior experience in a warehouse, logistics, or inventory management setting.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Experience operating pallet jacks or other material handling equipment.
