Job Description
Join Disability Choices Mount Gambier as a Disability Day-Program Helper and become a vital part of our vibrant community. This role is perfect for compassionate and enthusiastic individuals eager to support adults with diverse abilities in our day programs. You will assist clients with daily activities, facilitate group sessions, encourage social interaction, and help foster an environment of learning and growth. We are looking for someone who is community-focused, proactive, and committed to upholding the dignity and choices of every individual we support. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent entry point into the disability support sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to participants in a day-program setting, assisting with personal care, mobility, and communication as needed.
- Facilitate and actively participate in a variety of recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities tailored to individual needs and group interests.
- Promote community inclusion by supporting participants to access local amenities, events, and services.
- Assist with the development and implementation of individualised support plans, contributing to goal setting and progress monitoring.
- Maintain a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for all participants and staff.
- Document observations, progress, and incidents accurately and in a timely manner.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, families, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to all organisational policies, procedures, and relevant legislative requirements (e.g., NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework).
Required Skills
- Strong empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support individuals with disabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation and communication.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges and approaches.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid Australian Driver's License and reliable transport.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, or a related field (or working towards).
- Previous volunteer or paid experience in a support role (can be informal or formal).
- Experience working with individuals with complex needs or challenging behaviours.
- Understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
- Experience facilitating group activities or programs.
