Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Disaster Recovery Specialist to join our critical infrastructure and resilience team within the Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet. This role is pivotal in developing, implementing, and managing robust disaster recovery plans and strategies for government systems and services. The successful candidate will be instrumental in safeguarding vital data and ensuring operational continuity in the face of unforeseen disruptions, contributing directly to the resilience of Tasmania’s government functions and broader community safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and regularly test comprehensive disaster recovery plans and procedures for critical government IT systems and services.
  • Conduct risk assessments and business impact analyses to identify potential vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate and facilitate disaster recovery drills and exercises with relevant stakeholders across government agencies.
  • Collaborate with IT teams, infrastructure providers, and business units to ensure disaster recovery solutions align with organizational needs and industry best practices.
  • Manage and document disaster recovery incidents, including communication protocols and post-incident reviews.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on disaster recovery best practices to various government departments.
  • Stay abreast of emerging threats, technologies, and legislative changes related to disaster recovery and business continuity.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on disaster recovery readiness and performance for senior management.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in developing and managing disaster recovery or business continuity plans.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and cloud technologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Experience with risk assessment methodologies and tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CBCP, CRISC, DRCE).
  • Experience working within a government or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of Australian and Tasmanian regulatory requirements pertaining to data security and continuity.
  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
