Job Description
Are you a compassionate individual looking to make a meaningful impact in your community? Australian Unity Home Care is seeking dedicated Elderly Companions to provide vital non-medical support and companionship to seniors in Palmerston. This entry-level role requires no prior medical training or experience – we believe in nurturing talent and providing comprehensive training to all our team members. Your primary focus will be on offering social engagement, practical assistance with daily living, and a friendly presence to enhance our clients’ quality of life. Key Responsibilities
- Engage clients in stimulating conversation and social activities (e.g., reading, games, hobbies)
- Assist with light household tasks, including tidying, laundry, and maintaining a clean living environment
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks, adhering to dietary requirements
- Accompany clients to appointments, social outings, or for walks (where applicable)
- Provide companionship and emotional support, fostering a sense of connection and well-being
- Assist with personal errands, such as grocery shopping or picking up prescriptions
- Monitor and report any changes in the client's condition or environment to the supervisor
- Adhere to Australian Unity's policies and procedures, including privacy and safety protocols
Required Skills
- Strong empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- A positive attitude and a compassionate approach to care
- Basic organisational and household management skills
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to individual client needs
- Current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain one)
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a care-related role (paid or voluntary) is a plus, but not essential
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Certificate III in Individual Support (or working towards it)
