Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Forensic Scientist/Toxicologist to join our dynamic team in Leicester. This critical role involves conducting complex analytical tests, interpreting results, and providing expert testimony in support of criminal investigations and public health. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in analytical chemistry or toxicology, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for applying scientific principles to real-world challenges. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive toxicological analyses on biological samples.
- Operate and maintain a variety of sophisticated laboratory instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS).
- Interpret analytical data and prepare detailed scientific reports.
- Provide expert testimony in court, clearly explaining complex scientific findings.
- Participate in quality assurance and control programs to maintain accreditation standards.
- Develop and validate new analytical methods as required.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, legal professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Adhere to strict chain-of-custody protocols and laboratory safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Forensic Science, Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience with analytical techniques such as Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
- Strong understanding of forensic toxicology principles and methodologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex scientific information.
- Ability to work accurately and meticulously under pressure in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Proficiency in data analysis and technical report writing.
- Eligibility for visa sponsorship in the UK.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Forensic Toxicology or Analytical Chemistry.
- Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
- Previous experience presenting scientific evidence as an expert witness in a legal setting.
