Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Heavy Equipment / Plant Manager to oversee the efficient operation, maintenance, and strategic deployment of our extensive plant and heavy equipment fleet in Swindon. This critical role ensures all machinery is safe, compliant, and readily available to support our diverse construction and infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead a team of plant operators, mechanics, and support staff, fostering a culture of safety and high performance.
- Oversee the full lifecycle management of heavy equipment, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, and eventual disposal.
- Develop and implement robust preventative maintenance programs to maximise equipment uptime and longevity.
- Ensure strict compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations (HSE) relevant to plant operations.
- Manage plant budgets, control costs, and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost savings.
- Monitor equipment performance, track usage, and provide regular reports to senior management.
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure timely and appropriate allocation of plant to various construction sites.
- Implement and maintain an inventory management system for parts and consumables.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Plant Manager or similar role within the construction or heavy equipment industry (minimum 5 years).
- Strong technical knowledge of various heavy equipment, plant machinery, and vehicle maintenance.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Thorough understanding of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
- Proficiency in budgeting, cost control, and financial management related to plant operations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant engineering degree or equivalent vocational qualification (e.g., in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Management).
- Experience with plant management software systems.
- NEBOSH or IOSH certification.
- Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2).
