Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and responsible Historic Monument Caretaker to join our team. This quiet public sector role involves the daily inspection, light maintenance, and safeguarding of Oxford’s cherished monuments and public historic sites. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring these sites remain in pristine condition and are respectfully maintained, contributing to the city’s beauty and heritage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily visual inspections of assigned historic monuments and their immediate surroundings.
  • Perform light maintenance tasks including litter removal, basic cleaning, and minor touch-ups.
  • Report any signs of damage, vandalism, wear, or security concerns promptly to the relevant department.
  • Monitor public access to sites, ensuring respect for the monuments and adherence to guidelines.
  • Assist visitors with general inquiries about the sites while maintaining a quiet and professional presence.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, observations, and completed tasks.
  • Ensure security protocols are followed for designated areas around monuments.

  • A valid UK driving license.
  • Basic first aid certification.
