Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Historical Reenactment & Interpretation Intern to join our team. This entry-level internship provides hands-on experience in historical interpretation, living history, and public engagement within a museum setting. The intern will assist with developing and delivering interpretive programs, conducting historical research for reenactments, and interacting with the public to bring Golden’s past to life. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about history, education, and performance, with full training provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in historical reenactments and living history demonstrations, portraying various historical figures or roles.
- Assist with the research and development of interpretive content for programs and exhibits.
- Engage with museum visitors, answering questions and providing historical context in an accessible and engaging manner.
- Support the education team in preparing materials and props for interpretive activities.
- Contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of historical costumes and props.
- Attend and participate in training sessions on historical interpretation techniques and safety protocols.
- Document program outcomes and visitor feedback to help improve future offerings.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in history, particularly Colorado history and local heritage.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable interacting with diverse audiences.
- Ability to learn and retain historical information quickly.
- Enthusiastic and adaptable team player.
- Basic research skills and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and participate in activities for extended periods, and potentially wear historical costumes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in History, Museum Studies, Education, Theatre, or a related field.
- Previous experience in public speaking, performance, or customer service.
- Familiarity with historical research methods.
