Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instrumentation Lead to join our industrial engineering team in Osborne Park, WA. This is a pivotal role for an individual with a robust background in instrumentation and control systems within heavy industrial environments. The successful candidate will lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and safe instrumentation solutions. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of instrumentation projects, from conceptual design and specification through to commissioning and handover. This role demands a strong technical leader with excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to best practices in industrial engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, specification, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for industrial projects.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for instrumentation-related tasks.
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses for new instrumentation technologies.
- Develop and review engineering documentation, including P&IDs, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and functional specifications.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of instrumentation engineers and technicians.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations (e.g., AS/NZS, IEC, ISA).
- Oversee site installation, commissioning, and testing of instrumentation systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process, electrical, mechanical, and operations personnel.
- Troubleshoot complex instrumentation issues and implement effective corrective actions.
- Stay abreast of new technologies and industry trends in instrumentation and industrial automation.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in industrial instrumentation technologies (e.g., pressure, temperature, flow, level transmitters).
- Expertise in control systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA) and fieldbus communication protocols (e.g., HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus).
- Strong understanding of intrinsic safety, hazardous area classification, and functional safety (SIL).
- Demonstrated project leadership and management experience.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Experience with engineering software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SmartPlant Instrumentation).
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or working towards it.
- Post-graduate qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with cyber security considerations for industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles in an industrial setting.
