Job Description

Vanguard Digital Media Group is offering an exciting student placement opportunity for individuals looking to kickstart their career in digital journalism. This placement is designed to provide hands-on experience across various aspects of digital news production, from research and writing to content management and social media engagement. You will work alongside experienced journalists and editors, contributing to our daily news output and learning the ropes of a fast-paced media environment. Full training and mentorship will be provided, making this an ideal opportunity for students with little to no prior professional experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist journalists and editors with research for news stories and features.
- Draft short articles, social media posts, and headlines under guidance.
- Support content management tasks, including uploading and scheduling articles.
- Monitor news trends, social media, and competitor activities.
- Attend and contribute to editorial meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Learn and utilise our Content Management System (CMS) for publishing.
- Fact-check information and sources to ensure accuracy.
- Help manage and grow our social media presence.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Journalism, Communications, Media, or related degree program.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- A genuine passion for news, current affairs, and digital media.
- Basic understanding of major social media platforms.
- Exceptional eagerness to learn, a proactive attitude, and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic familiarity with any Content Management System (e.g., WordPress).
- Understanding of SEO principles for content optimization.
- Experience with basic photo or video editing software (even amateur projects).
