Job Description
Are you passionate about animals and looking for a rewarding entry-level opportunity? Southern Coast Animal Hospital is seeking a dedicated Kennel Hand to join our team in Victor Harbor. No prior experience is needed – we believe in nurturing talent and will provide comprehensive, hands-on training to the right candidate. Key Responsibilities
- Cleaning and sanitizing kennels, cages, and common areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Feeding and providing fresh water to animals according to established schedules and dietary needs.
- Monitoring animals for signs of illness, distress, or unusual behavior and reporting concerns to veterinary staff.
- Assisting with walking, exercising, and socializing animals.
- Restocking supplies and ensuring equipment is clean and organized.
- Providing compassionate handling and care for all animals, including those requiring special attention.
- Assisting veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint and basic procedures when needed.
- Maintaining accurate records of animal feeding, cleaning, and observations.
Required Skills
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and a love for all types of animals.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Physical stamina to perform demanding tasks, including lifting up to 20kg, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Australian Driver's License.
- Basic knowledge of animal behavior or prior volunteer experience with animals.
- First Aid certification (human or animal).
