Job Description
Are you looking for an entry-level opportunity in logistics with a global leader? FedEx Supply Chain is seeking a dedicated Logistics Yard Gate Opener to join our team in Rochester, NY. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the efficient and safe management of vehicle access to our yard, primarily through manual barrier operation. This is a hands-on position perfect for individuals who are reliable, punctual, and eager to learn the fundamentals of supply chain operations. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent entry point into the logistics industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually operate yard gate barriers to control inbound and outbound vehicle traffic.
- Verify driver credentials and shipping documents for all incoming and outgoing vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, security personnel, and yard management.
- Maintain a secure and organized gate area, ensuring smooth traffic flow.
- Log vehicle movements accurately using provided systems or manual logs.
- Report any unusual activities, incidents, or security breaches immediately to management.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company regulations at all times.
- Assist with other yard operations tasks as needed, under supervision.
Required Skills
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential for this role.
- Basic communication skills (verbal and written) in English.
- Ability to work effectively in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions.
- Physical ability to manually operate barriers, stand for extended periods, and perform light lifting (up to 25 lbs).
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in a gate attendant, security, or customer service role (not required, but a plus).
- Familiarity with basic logistics or warehouse operations terminology.
