Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join our team in Orange. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals who have completed their Certificate IV in Mental Health and are eager to apply their skills in a supportive environment. You will work directly with individuals living with mental health challenges, empowering them to achieve their personal goals, build independence, and engage more fully with their community. Full training and ongoing professional development will be provided to ensure your success in this vital role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, fostering recovery and independence.
  • Assist clients with daily living skills, community participation, and access to services.
  • Develop and implement individual recovery plans in collaboration with clients and their support networks.
  • Monitor and report on client progress, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Offer practical support and advocacy to help clients navigate various systems (e.g., housing, employment, health).
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
  • Respond effectively to crisis situations in line with organisational policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport.
  • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mental health recovery principles.
  • Current Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (paid or volunteer) in a support role within mental health or community services.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services in the Orange region.
  • First Aid Certificate and/or Mental Health First Aid training.
