Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Mine Safety Lead for a FIFO (Fly-In/Fly-Out) Compliance Role based out of our Alice Springs office. This critical position is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety compliance across our various mining operations. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety management systems, driving a proactive safety culture, and providing expert guidance on WHS regulations. The role requires significant travel to remote mine sites, overseeing compliance, conducting audits, and fostering strong relationships with operational teams to maintain an incident-free work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and review WHS policies, procedures, and management systems in line with legislative requirements and company standards.
  • Lead and participate in safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments on various mine sites.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to site management and operational teams on WHS compliance and best practices.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor and report on safety performance metrics, ensuring timely and accurate data submission.
  • Conduct safety training and inductions for new and existing personnel.
  • Act as a key liaison with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders on safety matters.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, engagement, and leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant mining safety legislation, codes of practice, and company standards.
  • Manage and coordinate FIFO logistics for compliance-related travel to remote sites.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a safety leadership or compliance role within the mining industry.
  • Formal qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., Diploma or Advanced Diploma of WHS).
  • Demonstrated experience with Australian mining safety legislation and regulations.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage safety management systems.
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a diverse team in remote locations.
  • Current Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lead Auditor certification (ISO 45001).
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Engineering, Environmental Science).
  • Experience with various mining commodities (e.g., iron ore, gold, bauxite).
  • Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
