Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated National Parks Ranger to join our team in the Port Adelaide region. This role involves a diverse range of duties focused on protecting and enhancing our natural and cultural assets, promoting visitor enjoyment, and ensuring compliance with park regulations. You will be instrumental in delivering conservation outcomes, managing visitor experiences, and responding to incidents within our beautiful parklands.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of national park areas to monitor conditions, identify issues, and ensure visitor safety.
- Implement and assist with biodiversity conservation programs, including pest and weed management, habitat restoration, and native flora/fauna monitoring.
- Engage with park visitors, providing information, education, and assistance, while promoting responsible use of park facilities.
- Enforce park regulations and relevant legislation, issuing warnings or infringements as required.
- Maintain park infrastructure, including trails, signs, visitor facilities, and vehicle tracks.
- Respond to emergency incidents such as bushfires, search and rescue operations, and natural disasters, acting as first responder when necessary.
- Undertake minor construction and repair work on park assets.
- Collect and record data related to park management, visitor numbers, and environmental observations.
- Assist with community engagement activities and volunteer programs.
- Provide guided walks and interpretative programs to enhance visitor understanding and appreciation of natural environments.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental principles and conservation practices.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills in dynamic environments.
- Physical fitness and resilience to perform duties in challenging outdoor conditions.
- Proficiency in operating 4WD vehicles, ATVs, and basic hand tools.
- Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Current C-Class driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Diploma or Certificate IV in Conservation and Land Management, Parks and Wildlife Management, or a related field.
- Experience in a similar ranger or land management role.
- Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and indigenous cultural heritage of the Port Adelaide region.
- Chainsaw Operator Certificate.
- Coxswain Grade 2 Near Coastal Certificate (or willingness to obtain for marine park duties).
