Job Description
Are you passionate about the outdoors? Do you love camping, hiking, climbing, or cycling? We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Outdoor & Camping Gear Outfitter to join our retail sales team in Oakland, CA. In this role, you will be the go-to expert for customers seeking the perfect gear for their next adventure. From tents and sleeping bags to backpacks and technical apparel, you’ll help customers make informed decisions, ensuring they are well-equipped and confident for their outdoor pursuits. This is a dynamic retail position that combines customer service, sales, and sharing your love for outdoor activities. Key Responsibilities
- Engage with customers to understand their outdoor activity needs and recommend appropriate gear and apparel.
- Provide expert advice on product features, benefits, and proper use for a wide range of outdoor and camping equipment.
- Achieve daily and weekly sales goals while providing exceptional customer service.
- Process transactions accurately using our point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Assist with merchandising, stocking shelves, and maintaining a clean and organized sales floor.
- Stay informed about new products, industry trends, and outdoor techniques.
- Support store operations, including inventory management and special orders.
- Promote REI's co-op membership and community events.
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- A genuine passion for outdoor activities and an eagerness to share it.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented retail environment.
- Basic computer proficiency and comfort with POS systems.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds regularly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous retail sales or customer service experience, especially in outdoor or sporting goods.
- In-depth knowledge of camping, backpacking, hiking, or other outdoor gear and techniques.
- Experience with inventory management and visual merchandising.
- Familiarity with the REI co-op mission and values.
