Job Description

St John Ambulance Queensland is seeking enthusiastic and compassionate individuals to join our team as Patient Transport Assistants in Hervey Bay. This is an entry-level position where no prior experience in healthcare is required. We provide comprehensive, paid training to equip you with all the skills and knowledge needed to excel in this crucial role. You will be responsible for the safe and comfortable transport of patients to and from medical appointments, inter-facility transfers, and other non-emergency situations. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and compassionately transport patients to and from various healthcare facilities and residences.
- Assist patients with mobility, ensuring comfort and dignity throughout the transport process.
- Operate and maintain St John Ambulance vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
- Complete accurate patient records and transport documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and stock levels of transport vehicles and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, healthcare professionals, and team members.
- Adhere to all St John Ambulance policies, procedures, and relevant health and safety regulations.
- Provide basic first aid support as required during transport, following training protocols.
Required Skills
- Valid Australian Driver's License (minimum C Class) with a good driving record.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and empathetically.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Physical fitness to safely assist patients with mobility and lift equipment.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- A genuine desire to provide high-quality patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011 or equivalent) – training will be provided if not held.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
- Previous experience in a customer service or care-giving role (voluntary or paid).
