Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic pharmacy team at St John of God Osborne Park Hospital. This pivotal role involves supporting our pharmacists in the safe and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical services to patients across various hospital wards. You will play a crucial part in medication management, ensuring accurate dispensing, inventory control, and patient-focused support. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician to contribute to high-quality patient care within a supportive and professional hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately dispense and label medications under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and TGA guidelines.
- Manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating medications to minimise waste and ensure availability.
- Prepare sterile and non-sterile compounded medications in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
- Conduct ward stock checks and assist with medication audits to maintain optimal stock levels and expiry date management.
- Provide basic patient counselling on medication use, storage, and administration as directed by a pharmacist.
- Assist pharmacists in conducting medication reconciliation and patient history reviews.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment within the pharmacy.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
Required Skills
- Certificate III or IV in Hospital/Community Pharmacy or equivalent qualification.
- Prior experience working as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably within a hospital setting.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in using pharmacy management software and general computer applications.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with sterile compounding techniques.
- Familiarity with hospital-specific pharmacy systems (e.g., MedChart, FRED).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of relevant Australian healthcare legislation and professional practice standards.
