Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and driven Photojournalism Intern to join our dynamic newsroom in Macon. This internship offers an invaluable opportunity for an aspiring visual storyteller to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced media environment. You will work alongside experienced photojournalists and editors, learning the ropes of professional news photography, visual storytelling, and multimedia production. This role is perfect for individuals eager to develop their skills, build a portfolio, and contribute to meaningful local journalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist staff photographers in covering local news events, sports, features, and community gatherings.
  • Capture high-quality, compelling photographs that accurately reflect the story being told.
  • Edit and process images using industry-standard software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom) for publication across print and digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors to understand assignments and visual needs.
  • Adhere to journalistic ethics, deadlines, and company guidelines.
  • Learn to identify strong visual opportunities and anticipate photo needs for breaking news and planned events.
  • Maintain and organize photographic equipment.
  • Contribute to our online photo galleries and social media channels.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of photography principles (exposure, composition, lighting).
  • Familiarity with digital SLR cameras and basic photo editing software.
  • Strong eye for visual storytelling and detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Access to a personal reliable camera equipment is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Photojournalism, Photography, Communications, or a related field.

  • Portfolio demonstrating photographic ability (can include academic or personal projects).
