Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and skilled Port Authority Vehicle Driver to join our team in Hamilton. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of newly imported vehicles within the port facility and designated areas. This involves handling a variety of car models, ensuring they are transported without damage, and adhering to strict port regulations and safety protocols. The ideal candidate will possess excellent driving skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently drive newly imported vehicles from shipside or unloading areas to designated storage lots or inspection points within the port facility.
- Inspect vehicles for any pre-existing damage prior to movement and report discrepancies immediately.
- Operate various types of vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, and light trucks, with precision and care.
- Adhere strictly to all port authority rules, traffic laws, and company safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle movements and locations as required.
- Communicate effectively with port staff, supervisors, and colleagues.
- Assist with other port-related logistical tasks as needed.
Required Skills
- Valid Class G (or equivalent) driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience in driving a variety of vehicles.
- Ability to operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify vehicle damage.
- Excellent spatial awareness and maneuvering skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced outdoor environment, sometimes in varying weather conditions.
- Basic communication skills (written and verbal).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience driving within a port, terminal, or large industrial environment.
- Familiarity with import/export logistics procedures.
- Experience operating vehicles with a two-way radio system.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle mechanics or troubleshooting.
