Job Description
Are you looking for a hands-on role where you can learn valuable trade skills from the ground up? Peak District Property Services is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Property Maintenance Assistant (Handyman/Mate) to join our growing team in Derby. This is an entry-level position perfect for individuals with no prior experience in property maintenance, but a strong desire to learn, an excellent work ethic, and a positive attitude. You will work alongside experienced technicians, gaining practical knowledge and developing a comprehensive skill set in various aspects of property upkeep and repair. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior maintenance technicians with a variety of tasks across different properties.
- Learn and perform basic repair and maintenance duties, including painting, minor plumbing, simple carpentry, and general upkeep.
- Prepare work areas, collect necessary tools and materials, and ensure sites are left clean and tidy.
- Conduct routine checks and inspections under supervision.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with team members, residents, and clients, ensuring a high level of customer service.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
Required Skills
- No prior experience in property maintenance is required; full training will be provided.
- A strong willingness and eagerness to learn new skills.
- Basic understanding of hand tools or a keen interest in learning how to use them safely and effectively.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Physical fitness and the ability to carry out manual tasks, lift objects, and work in various environments.
- A proactive, problem-solving attitude and attention to detail.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- A full, clean UK Driving License is desirable, as travel between sites may be required (company vehicle provided for work use).
- Basic DIY interest or hobbies.
- GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent) is a plus.
