Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Public Sector Fleet Dispatcher to join our Transport Department. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the efficient coordination and deployment of city vehicles and equipment, ensuring timely support for various municipal operations. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to prioritize effectively under pressure, and a commitment to public service. You will be the central point of contact for fleet requests, maintenance scheduling, and incident response, contributing directly to the smooth functioning of our city’s infrastructure and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize incoming service requests for vehicle and equipment deployment from various city departments.
- Dispatch fleet vehicles, equipment, and personnel in an efficient and timely manner based on operational needs and availability.
- Monitor vehicle locations and status using GPS and communication systems to optimize routing and response times.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, technicians, and departmental staff regarding schedules, delays, and critical information.
- Maintain accurate dispatch logs, vehicle records, and service request documentation.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team for scheduled servicing, repairs, and emergency breakdowns.
- Assist in the development and implementation of dispatch procedures and protocols.
- Respond to and assist in managing emergency situations related to fleet operations, ensuring safety and compliance.
- Prepare daily and weekly activity reports for management review.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in dispatching or logistics coordination, preferably in a fleet or transportation environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Sound geographical knowledge of Colorado Springs and surrounding areas.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Logistics, Transportation Management, or a related field.
- Experience working within a public sector or government agency.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance schedules and operational requirements.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
