Job Description
Join Public Transport Victoria as a Public Transport Information Host and become the friendly face of our transit hubs. In this vital customer service role, you will be based at key transport interchanges in Sunshine, providing essential information and assistance to passengers. Your primary goal will be to ensure a smooth, pleasant, and informed travel experience for everyone using Victoria’s public transport network. This includes assisting with journey planning, ticket queries, real-time service updates, and general wayfinding, especially during peak times and service disruptions. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping people, possess excellent communication skills, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and up-to-date public transport information to passengers, including timetables, routes, and fare structures.
- Assist passengers with ticket purchases, validating Myki cards, and resolving common ticketing issues.
- Offer support with journey planning using digital tools and physical maps.
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints with professionalism and empathy.
- Direct passengers to correct platforms, bus stops, and connecting services.
- Monitor and communicate real-time service updates, delays, and disruptions to passengers.
- Ensure transit hub areas are orderly and easily navigable for all users.
- Collaborate with operational staff to resolve passenger-related issues efficiently.
- Promote a positive and welcoming atmosphere within transit hubs.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service orientation with a proactive and helpful attitude.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, especially during busy periods or incidents.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to quickly learn new systems.
- Problem-solving skills and a resourceful approach to assisting passengers.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated punctuality and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role within the transport, retail, or hospitality sector.
- Familiarity with the Victorian public transport network (trains, trams, buses).
- Ability to speak multiple languages (highly regarded).
- First Aid certification.
