Job Description

Tucson Electric Power is seeking a motivated Public Utilities Drone Pilot Trainee to join our innovative team. This entry-level position is designed for individuals with no prior drone piloting experience. We will provide comprehensive training to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to operate unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for critical infrastructure inspection, aerial surveying, and data collection within the public utilities sector. You will learn the fundamentals of drone operation, flight safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and advanced data acquisition techniques. Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all phases of a structured training program for UAS operations.
- Assist certified drone pilots with pre-flight checks, flight planning, and post-flight data processing.
- Learn to safely operate various types of drones under direct supervision for inspection and surveying tasks.
- Support the collection of aerial imagery and data for utility assets such as power lines, substations, and solar fields.
- Adhere strictly to all FAA regulations, company safety policies, and best practices for UAS operations.
- Perform basic maintenance and calibration of drone equipment.
- Assist with data management and reporting for collected aerial information.
- Collaborate with field crews and engineers to understand project requirements and deliver actionable insights from drone data.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong interest in technology, aviation, or mapping.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or coursework in a related technical field (e.g., GIS, engineering, aviation).
- Familiarity with basic mapping or geospatial concepts.
